Characteristics of Pear Cut Diamonds

Pear cut diamonds are distinctly feminine in shape and general looks. These diamonds are fascinatingly exquisite with a unique shape that looks beautiful on a lady’s finger. Its shape is often described as a blend of the famous Marquise cut as well as the Round Brilliant cut diamonds. The result is a shape that tapers delicately at one end while curving in a gentle arc at the other end. It is quite popular among ladies of very exquisite and delicate tastes on gemstones and is commonly seen adorning the fingers of high-class ladies.

1.    Larger Size Impressions: When viewed from a face-up position, Pear Cut diamonds tend to project an impression of a much larger size in comparison with diamonds of different cuts but same carat weight. For example, a 1 Carat Pear Cut diamond may have dimensions of 8mm length x 5mm width while a Round Brilliant cut of the same 1 Carat measures an average of 6.5mm.

2.    Fit for Diverse Jewelry: The unique shape of the Pear Cut diamonds made them very ideal for use in a range of jewelry. Thus you can mount these diamonds in necklaces pendants and earrings. Its teardrop shape easily makes a fine complement while providing stunning brilliance to enhance the beauty of the jewelry on which it is mounted.

3.    Substantial Proportion Variance: The length-to-width ratio of Pear Cut diamonds are typically a function of the rough stone from which they are cut and polished. Thus, there is considerable variance and the choice of diamond depends on the taste of the individual wearing it. However, as a general rule, Pear Cuts have a length-to-width ratio of between 1.5 to 1.75.

4.    Versatility in Use: When used within a piece of jewelry, Pear Cuts tend to have a lot of versatility. While you may use them quite effectively and beautifully as a center stone, you will find that Pear Cuts also look very dazzling as accents. How you use them is a personal choice however.

One aspect of wearing Pear Cut diamonds is the question of the direction which the stone ought to face. This usually raises questions as many wearers are not sure of how to wear it since the diamond has two ends. Actually, convention provides that the tapering end be worn facing the fingers. In other words, when worn, it should look as though a tear just dropped from the fingernail.
